Jackson Real Estate Profile
Jackson County is truly the Crossroads of Michigan, accessible from many state highways and I-94. Sixty-five spring-fed lakes make Jackson and vicinity a popular summer vacation destination. Fishing, swimming, and other water sports abound. The region is a center for Michigan's growing wine industry. Golf Digest magazine calls Jackson one of the country's best golf values, with its high concentration of courses.

Jackson, MI Local History
Brothers Horace and Russell Blackman of Tioga County, New York, settled in what is now Jackson in July 1829. Settlers continued to arrive and a post office opened in 1830. The town was first called Jacksonburgh, in honor of Andrew Jackson, then changed to Jacksonopolis and finally shortened to Jackson in 1833.

Jackson is considered the birthplace of the Republican Party. On July 6, 1854, the Republican Party held its first convention in Jackson “under the oaks.” Delegates adopted a platform and nominated a full slate of candidates for state offices. The first Republican candidate for president, John C. Fremont, ran in 1856 with the slogan "Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men, Fremont."
